Lets begin by establishing Who Am I to Have a Blog?...nobody really, unless you consider being a devoted wife, a good friend, a loving daughter, a yogi, a boring old school teacher who is in bed by 9 p.m, a dog mom, a student, and an intentional wanderer who feels it necessary to share her stories of adventure...although, each of the above categories of people, I am sure, already have multiple blogs cluttering up cyber space.
My reason for a blog began last summer, while traveling in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. My husband and I came home to a Basement Flood which had destroyed all of my travel journals. I had begun writing a travel journal when I jumped on Greyhound bus several weeks after finishing college, to follow the band Phish and do some camping on the east coast. I had journals of the Napali Coast in Kauai, living on the North Shore of Hawaii, working and living as a backcountry guide in Maine, working as an outdoor educator in Freedom, New Hampshire. However, my passion for writing travel journals took off while in India for two months. I wrote it for my mother in hopes that she could experience everything I was experiencing via my words. My mom actually helped to form most of my India journal by keeping the e-mails I sent home; including the story of how Sam had proposed to me along the Yamuna River behind the Taj Mahal. I've decided to start a blog as an electronic journal of my travels, my Reflections of gratitude to the amazing life I lead, and what-have-ya's. My friend Nicole Z. always says that Sam and I should have our own reality t.v. show; however, a humble little blog followed by no-one, will have to do. I am optimistic the world is not going to explode anytime soon to destroy the stories which will one day be collected here (and if it does, nobody will be around to read my boring blog anyways). I am also eager that I will have a full collection of stories, for my friends and my family, to read about; although, of course, I rather share these stories in person while drinking some Malbec and eating an amazing home cooked dinner together or riding a chair lift up the mountain to ski some powder!
And as mentioned in the title of this blog....Adventure! It is time to start a new travel journal. It is titled Salt Lake City and Mexico. We have been living in Salt Lake City for three winters now and have the most incredible friends and beautiful memories. Sam and I, although extremely happy here in the SL, UT, have always played around with the idea of quitting our jobs and traveling around the world for an extended period of time~ six months, one year, two years. In an attempt to do the most 'adult-like' thing, we decided teaching abroad, again, would provide us with a similar opportunity; and maybe less guff from our families. Although, the idea of a Trip Around the World is always floating in the back of my head.
During our second year of living in Ecuador in 2008, we began researching international schools because our contracts at Colegio Menor were about to end. During our search we discovered the American School of Puerto Vallarta and sent in our applications. Unfortunately the school was not hiring. Throughout the years, we continued to keep our eyes out for jobs at ASPV but teachers did not seem to ever leave. After many years of waiting, two jobs opened that happen to match our skills set and we were contacted by the Superintendent and founder of the school, we interviewed, and today we accepted jobs as Science teachers at the American School of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. Sam will be teaching 7th, 8th, 9th grade Science & Algebra I (Upper School). I was hired as a Science Specialist for grades 1-6 (Lower School). Check out the school's website: http://aspv.edu.mx/
Just in case you were not fully present while skimming the last paragraph and you missed it...We Are Moving to Puerto Vallarta!
