Surf Lessons in Punta de Mita
Picture
Acción Tropical in Punta de Mita is my go-to pick for surf trips, stand up paddle board rentals, surf instruction and boat trips to the Marieta Islands.

Quinceañera Mass
Picture
The local butcher invited us to their daughter's quinceañera party; to celebrate her fifteenth revolution around the sun.
The [over the top] evening began with a late afternoon mass.  A Mexican Mass for a Quinceañera is the best! Not that I have much knowledge about mass...

San Pancho's Circo de los Niños
Picture
I pushed my way through the thick air of patchouli oil to arrive to my seat; perfectly positioned under the constellation of Orion.  I was ecstatic to be at my first outdoor circus.  I received two, last minute, tickets to a sold out event I had been wanting to see.  'Circo de los Niños' in San Pancho.

Hiking in Sayulita
Picture
Signing up for a guided tour on vacation has the potential to be absolutely horrible.  MexiTreks guide & owner, Steve had me within five minutes of meeting;  he is the real deal...

Las Marietas Islands
Picture
As our rugged fishing boat bounced us through the waves towards the islands, I felt like a dog must feel as they hold their head outside of a car window.  Pure Delight.

La Cruz de Huanacaxtle's Fiestas Patronales
Picture
A loud, piercing noise awoke me.  As I lay in bed waiting for another sound to determine the exactness of what had startled me awake, I concluded it must have been a gunshot.  My first thought, 'I hope Bob and Kathy didn't hear that'.  Nobody wants gunshots going off by their house when their in-laws are visiting.

Catemaco: Spellbound & Somewhat [Dis]Enchanted...
Picture
Picture
Catemaco is an isolated pueblo nestled along a freshwater lake in the Tuxtla mountain range of eastern Mexico.
The approach into the Tuxtla mountains had no direct route for us, as we arrived from the northwest with two route options.  Option one: somewhat out of the way with more ground to cover, but nicer highway.  Option numero dos: what appears to be a shorter path directly into Catemaco, but on a less traveled road according to the atlas.  [Important Life Lesson]:..

Bernal: Monolithic & Magical
Picture
Picture
San Sebastián Bernal and I didn't start out on the right foot.  A road side blowout occurred just shy of town.
Our rough introduction was quickly forgotten and cleansed from my memory.
I was charmed as soon as my foot hit cobblestone street in the town's main plaza.

The Q Spot

Picture
My mom has always taught me the value of sharing and giving to others.  Ninety-nine point nine percent of the time, I abide.  Today, I am sure to disappoint her....

Here's to Now
Picture
We arrived by 'panga' about 10:00 a.m.; dumped our bags on the beach, set Sancho free to run like a demon along the beach and jumped in the water for some surf.  As I paddled out, my hands were met by large clumps of spaghetti-like resistance.  What the f is this?
Puerto Vallarta to San Sebastian del Oeste
[The Perfect Day Trip]
Picture
The third annual lantern festival in San Sebastian del Oeste [and the temptation of cool mountain air] inspired us to abandon the sandy beaches and ocean waves; in exchange for...

Mexico By Road {Trip Logs}

Mexico By Road [Days 1-5]
Picture
The beauty of Mexico is breathtaking and thus far, driving and camping through this country is quickly becoming one of my favorite [or most unique] adventures.

Mexico By Road [Days 14-20]
Picture
I am forever changed by this adventure.  Driving Mexico has become one of my greatest experiences.
What I am learning about the world we live in is changing me; my knowledge and my opinions.
The people of Mexico have changed me ...
Mexico By Road [Days 6-13]
Picture
Ten Mexican states have led us to the southern Yucatan over a duration of 13 days.  Everyday I am scheming ways to elongate our trip; yearning to explore this vast country more deeply...

Mexico By Road [Days 21-28]
Picture
"If you are going to be traveling in Mexico, you'd better not be too attached to your plans".
This phrase has become our mantra; bringing sanity during the most difficult section of our trip, mentally speaking.  I thought I understood this quote during our first trip south of the border; two years ago.   Wrong.

Mexico By Road [Days 29-34]
Picture
My love for Mexico has grown deeper.  At the same time, my heart has been broken; aching for those who have allowed themselves to fear this country.  Shame on you for perpetuating the rumors and angst. [News Flash]: you are cheating yourself of endless opportunities by making the choice to be afraid of this incredible country.

Confessions of an Expat
Picture
Picture
The longer we live abroad, the more difficult it makes returning to our native country; financially speaking.  It isn't clear to me whether this sentiment is due to growing older or because it is our third international adventure.  In total, we've racked-up nearly five years of living away from the United States. What is becoming more clear, is the idea I no longer fit into the American Dream...
5 Things to Leave at Home
Picture
Ditch your diet and enjoy the incredible food! I am tempted to hold you down and shove a burrito [or ten] down your throat upon hearing you add up your Weight Watchers points. YOU ARE ON VACATION!  Go for a damn walk afterwards and don't miss out on the cultural experience of a countries cuisine.

Bob Barker Would Be Proud
Picture
Several months ago, I was jolted out of my peaceful little walk around the marina.  'Hey! Hey'!, said a local man trying to grab my attention.  He asked me if my dog was a male.  'Si', I replied.  'Why is he neutered'?.  As I began my Bob Barker, there are too many street dogs spiel, he promptly cut me short.
