Team Fuber is 2!

2/4/2014

This month marks the two year anniversary of our blog.  I've decided to dig around in the archives and post some of my personal favorites; from the past year, along with a few of the most viewed posts of 2013.  'The Best of Team Fuber' section, on the right hand side of the homepage houses some must read stories from 2012!

My personal resolution for 2014 is to travel and explore more often.  We have lived in Mexico for a year and a half and have yet to discover so many hidden gems, nearby.  [Confession...and yes, it is going to sound lame]:  As much as I love traveling, this is a going to be a really difficult resolution for me to commit to.  It will require me to drag myself away from the ocean and give my surfboard a rest.  Unless, I turn some of our adventures into surf trips!

I look forward to sharing our stories!

Saludos!

Face-to-Face With the Virgin

Picture
Day 3; our final day of hiking.  Flat paved road.  I popped a few ibuprofen to get my aching body moving.  The group started out chatty and filled with excitement, but after an hour or so, reverted back to silence.  As for me, I was busy daydreaming of our arrival to Talpa.  Each time I thought back on what we had climbed the previous days and how tired my body was, my eyes would well-up with tears....

Beach Fashion Faux Pas; Beach Braids

Picture
I've never been known for being a trend setter, fashionista or hipster, but I have a few words of fashion advice for people visiting Puerto Vallarta.  I would like to think I speak for the majority of expats living abroad, but I am sure I don't.  Before I dole out my words of judgement; umm I mean caution, I must confess that I wore bright green crocks within the past 7 years, yearned for m.c. hammer pants as a kid, and regularly received a tight perm each August before school started.  So, at least I am honest that I have made a few errors in reasoning.

Ok, let's get to the topic at hand...tourists who get beach-braids when they visit Puerto Vallarta; big faux pas....

A Love Letter

Picture
Mexico, my love-

My crush on you began one year ago, today.  And as our time together has escalated, I have found myself ass-over teakettle in love with you . It is the amicable demeanor of your people and their zeal for life, which I revere.  As well as, your tantalizing foods; which provoke the waistband of my bikini bottoms to bulge.  You have left me yearning to know you better.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this to you...

Las Marietas Islands [Bombs and Boobies]

Picture
Las Islas Marietas are a small group of uninhabited islands just off the coast of Punta de Mita.  These volcanic islands were once used as target practice by the Mexican government in the early 1900's.  As a result, caves and other unique rock formations were created; along with years of erosion and weathering.

We are fortunate to have these islands reside a short 15 minute car ride, 20 minute boat ride, from our front door.  We faithfully watch the immense, fiery sun dive behind the islands; as we sit atop our surf boards, trying to get the last wave in before darkness falls.  A stunning backdrop; looming out of the sea....

Enfrijoladas & Mexican Hand Signals

Picture
Food is an important part of Mexican culture.  So important I've heard people joke that the hand signal for the word 'yes', was derived because people always have their mouths full of food.  Yea, that's right, there is a hand signal for the word yes (also for the words: 'no', as well as, 'just a minute').  Whatever the reason is for this brilliant invention of a hand signal; it is damn useful for a plethora of reasons...
