It is official. We have moved to our third house since arriving in Mexico last July. Bucerias; one month. Puerto Vallarta; five months. And now, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle; an entirely new state, which is often referred to as the Riviera Nayarit. Doesn't it just sound exotic?
La Cruz de Huanacaxtle translates to the cross of Huanacaxtle. Huanacaxtle is a type of tree endemic to this region. The center of town has a large cross made from it's wood. Legend has it that an indigenous woman was buried at the base of a large Huanacaxtle tree. In tribute, a very large cross was carved into the trunk of the tree. The name stuck when people started saying 'lets meet at 'la cruz'.

La Cruz is a small, rustic fishing village. Each night the fishermen go out to set their nets and return back at sunrise to collect and sell their catch at the fish market. Besides fish, the town is known for it's Sunday farmers market and marina.
The reason for the move?...to be closer to the surf. I've been out surfing after work and on the weekend; my clothes are patiently waiting to be released from the backpack they were transported in from Vallarta.
